Letitia Elizabeth Landon (1802-1838) was born in London, England. A precocious child who read from an early age, Landon published her first poem at the age of 18 and her first poetry collection at 19. Landon went on to publish several other books of poetry and novels under the initials L. E. L., and she counted the poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Christina Rossetti among her admirers.
