Biography

Anne Carson was born in Toronto, has lived in Montreal, and currently lives in Michigan. In high school, a Latin teacher taught her ancient Greek during her lunch hours, which has since fueled her writing (her books Autobiography of Red and Red Doc> feature characters from the tale of Hercules) and her work as a translator and a professor of Classics. In 2001, she was the first woman to receive the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. She was also the Canadian Winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize in 2001 and 2014.
