Biography

Mohammad Majzoob Tabrizi was a seventeenth century Sufi poet and mystic from Tabriz. In poetic style, he was the follower of Hafiz. Tabrizi, a Shiite scholar, is known for his work that illuminates Kaafi Principles—a famous book of the beliefs, lives, and sayings of Shiite Imams and saints. Not much is known about Tabrizi’s life, but his pen name was Majzoob, or Takhallus. Tabrizi’s ghazal has been translated from Persian into English by Toronto-based Bänoo Zan. Zan is a poet, librettist, translator, teacher, editor, and poetry curator, whose three books include Songs of Exile and Letters to My Father. She is the founder of Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night).
