I am a prep and FSL teacher. We had the pleasure of a visit from a Poet supported/sponsored by Poetry in Voice during the 2024/2025 School Year. I was able to offer this amazing opportunity to my JK/SK students and their Drama Buddy Partners (Grade 7/8 students). The event was incredibly well-received. The pairing of the youngest and oldest learners helped cultivate a tone of creative freedom, which would not have been possible if the 7/8 students had participated in the workshop without their young buddies. And, the young students would not have been able to absorb, create and enjoy the poetry without the benefit of their 1:1 Drama Buddies.

I find that poetry is ideal for JK/SK students as it allows and encourages a sense of adventure, creativity, and play with words that the JK/SK child innately understands and responds to. This freedom of expression and lack of self-consciousness transfer onto the older student. It is truly an ideal match. It was a highlight of our Drama Buddy weekly program last year...and I would be so thrilled and grateful, if I were able to offer it to our new crop of JK/SK students and Grade 7/8s this school year.
