Sometimes a poem uses the supernatural for a twist. Maybe it is an interesting, non-human narrator, or a memorable image of bigfoot. For this exercise, however, try writing a poem that uses something supernatural in a very ordinary and casual way that doesn't draw too much attention to it.
1. Choose something supernatural. Maybe a ghost, witch, a ouija board, a dopplegänger, or maybe even tarot cards?
2. Begin the poem with something totally unrelated from your chosen supernatural element. This could be a mundane setting, a character, or even just a day of the week!
3. In the middle of your poem, slip in your supernatural reference.
4. End the poem in a casual way without referencing something out of the ordinary.
