Biography

The first woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950) was, in her youth, almost as famous for her Jazz Age–lifestyle, love affairs, and flame-red hair as she was for her poetry. Born in Maine, U.S., and educated at Vassar, she lived in Paris and Greenwich Village. Her poems are still admired for their precision and passion.
