Biography

Arielle Twist is a Nehiyaw, Two-Spirit, Trans woman whose work reclaims and harnesses ancestral magic and memories. Originally from George Gordon First Nation, Saskatchewan, Twist is now based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Arielle’s first collection of poetry is ‘Disintegrate/Dissociate’ (2019) and she’s been both nominated for a Pushcart Prize and shortlisted in the National Magazine Awards. Her work has not come out of an academic setting but rather in bits and pieces as inspiration strikes her. Arielle writes on her bed, hunched over a laptop, exploring how spacing can reflect a sense of dysphoria and fragmentation.

As well as being a celebrated poet, Arielle creates multi-media pieces and performances and has been exhibited in art galleries across the country.
