Biography
Milton James Rhode Acorn was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. As a trooper in World War II, he sustained a brain injury that affected him for the rest of his life. He penned 13 books of poetry, some of which were edited by Al Purdy. His work focused on issues of the working class and his influences included Isabella Valancy Crawford and Archibald Lampman. Acorn was named “The People’s Poet” in 1970 by a host of writers and poets including Margaret Atwood and Irving Layton.
