Biography
Born in Toronto, Gwendolyn MacEwen (1941-1987) began writing and publishing while still in her teens, eventually publishing over 20 books in her lifetime. In her early twenties, she was briefly married to the poet Milton Acorn, who was 19 years older than her. MacEwen, considered by many to be one of the best Canadian poets of her generation, won the Governor General’s Award for The Shadow Maker in 1969.
