Biography

California-born Ada Limón first fell in love with poetry when she read Elizabeth Bishop's "One Art" at the age of 15, and reading Sharon Olds’ The Dead and the Living made her believe she could be a poet. She earned an MFA from New York University, where she studied with Olds and the late U.S. poet laureate Philip Levine, among other notable poets. Limón writes mostly autobiographical poems that deal with difficult subjects such as infertility, womanhood, and motherhood. Her deeply personal fifth book, The Carrying (2018) won the National Book Critics Circle Award. For over a decade, Limón has worked in editorial and marketing capacities in the magazine industry. She currently teaches at North Carolina’s Queens University of Charlotte Low Residency M.F.A. program and lives in Lexington, Kentucky, where she works as a freelance copy writer and creative consultant.
