Biography

Naomi Shihab Nye is an American poet who was born, in 1952, to an American mother and a Palestinian father in Missouri. An internationally loved and respected poet, Nye often finds herself drawn to writing about the magic that can found in the ordinary rhythms of life, as well as highlighting the complex relationship that exists between human frailty and resilience. She has described herself as a “wandering poet,” having traveled extensively to offer writing workshops to students around the world. A multi-award winning author, Nye is a professor of Creative Writing – Poetry at Texas State University. In 2019, Nye was named as the Young People’s Poet Laureate of the United States by the Poetry Foundation. She lives in San Antonio, Texas.
